On November 5, 2012, the International Business Times and other media outlets published stories claiming that UFO sightings are on the decline.  The source for this claim is a press release issued by the UK-based Association for the Scientific Study of Anomalous Phenomena (ASSAP).  This group asserts that “ufology has seemingly been in global decline” since the 1980s, and that “in many parts of the world, UFO sightings have exhibited a general downward trend.”

But wait.  I thought UFO sighting reports were at near-record levels.

The Winnipeg-based group Ufology Research tracks UFO sighting reports in Canada, and data published in their 2011 Canadian UFO Survey concluded that 2011 was a near-record year for UFO sighting reports in Canada.  The year’s numbers were just shy of the record set in 2008.

Ufology is alive and well in the United States and the field appears to be fast growing along with strong growth in witness testimony, according to statistics compiled through early November 2012 with the Mutual UFO Network (MUFON).

A November 4, 2012, story published in The Telegraph was one of several media outlets reporting on a statement made by Dave Wood, chairman of the Association for the Scientific Study of Anomalous Phenomena (ASSAP). Wood said a meeting had been called to address a crisis in the UFO subject to consider whether or not the subject was “a thing of the past.”

Wood cites UFO groups who have gone under and a decline in interest and reports on UFOs.

Reached at his Cincinnati headquarters office today, MUFON Executive Director David MacDonald said ufology was alive and well.

The occurrence of “significant UFO events” has dropped notably over the past two decades, according to an organisation involved in UFO research.

The Association for the Scientific Study of Anomalous Phenomena (Assap) has said this trend has become so extreme that the UFO debate now focuses on only a handful of events, including claims that a flying saucer crashed at Roswell in New Mexico in the 1940s.

Assap has also noted a change in the nature of reported sightings.

“Even when reputed physical evidence surfaces it takes novel and extreme forms, including cattle mutilations, alien implants and alien autopsies,” promotional literature for the conference on Assap’s website said.

Why UFOs Matter

It seems like the world is divided into two kinds of people: those with a fascination for UFOs and those with only skeptical disdain. But in between those two polarities lies a rich and complex history of governmental involvement with the phenomenon — as well as some important information we have the right to be privy to.

Indian Army and the Indo-Tibetan Border Police Force (ITBP) reportedly sighted over 100 Unidentified Flying Object (UFO) on the skyline of Jammu and Kashmir between August 1 and October 15 this year.

According to a report published in India Today, ITBP has mentioned the details of UFO sightings in a report sent to the Delhi headquarters and to the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO). The report described the mysterious object as “Unidentified Luminous Objects” and ruled out the possibility of saying it as aerial vehicles (UAVS), drones or even low earth-orbiting satellites.

Flying saucers and other unidentified flying objects can distract pilots and cause accidents

By  Michael Morella

Thousands of unidentified flying objects are reported each year by the public. The fascination with UFOs has become a fixture of contemporary culture and a staple for science fiction writers and supermarket tabloids. But in response to the central question—are they alien spacecraft?—most officials and academics dismiss the idea of extraterrestrial visitations as unlikely in the extreme.

Yet an increasing number of researchers and public officials say the subject of UFOs is long overdue for more serious treatment.

Will David Cameron Confirm UFOs and Extra Terrestrials?

By Darren Perks

There is something hanging over Prime Minister David Cameron that will simply not go away…

Will he keep a promise he made and confirm the existence of UFOS and extra terrestrial life?

In January 2009 whilst on the campaign trail, David Cameron vowed to publish any secret files that may exist on UFOs and extra-terrestrial life once he became prime minister. Speaking at one of his regular Cameron Direct public meetings, he pledged to be ‘open and frank’ with any government knowledge about close encounters.

UFO War: Chinese and US Navy off San Francisco

By Gordon Duff

This last week, reports of Chinese naval vessels off the US coast, Northern Californian in particular, have been reported but denied.

Now an Asian intelligence agency reports that a combined fleet operation between the US and China has been going on, a full combat operation against what we are told is a “highly unfriendly extra-terrestrial threat.”

The verifications of the fleet operations have been many, there have been no confirmations from the US side though the ships have been seen by every vessel that makes it offshore.  The true nature of both the threat and the extent of the multinational military force used is beyond any imaginable classification level.

British Civil Aviation Authority Highly Interested In Pilots’ UFO Sightings

By Lee Speigel

Despite the fact the UK’s Ministry of Defense officially ended its UFO investigations in 2009, it appears that the British Civil Aviation Authority decided — unbeknownst to the public — to continue collecting reports that involved UFOs with possible flight safety issues.

“They were only interested in sightings that definitely had a bearing on aircraft or flight safety, and were no longer interested in reports from the public, who’d seen things in the sky and reported them to the Civil Aviation Authority,” said David Clarke, the official UK National Archives consultant and a journalism lecturer at Sheffield Hallam University.

UFO sightings and Alien encounter may not be happy one: Nobel laureate

Full Article at http://nvonews.com/2012/08/27/ufo-sightings-and-alien-encounter-may-not-be-happy-one-nobel-laureate/

Real UFO sightings and alien encounter has been talked about regularly by both scientists and laymen recently. But the face-off between human beings and aliens may not be that warm, as many people expect

It is probably unwise for human beings to be telling aliens where we are, Nobel laureate Brian P. Schmidt has said.

“I think it is probably not the smartest thing to tell the aliens where we are, as any encounter with aliens may not be a happy one,” Xinhua quoted Schmidt as saying at the 28th General Assembly of the International Astronomical Union currently going on the Chinese capital.

It is probably the closest Australia has come to scrambling fighter jets to  intercept a UFO.

Documents that have just become available under the 30-year rule at the  National Archives of Australia reveal how two RAAF Mirage jets were placed on  the second highest level of alert to determine the cause of unidentified radar  contacts seen on screens at Mascot.

The ”X Files”  viewed in Canberra also give details of other unexplained  sightings, some of which are supported by witness statements to police.

UFO sightings in Canada neared a record high in 2011, a new study reveals.

According to Ufology Research, which has studied unidentified flying objects in this country since 1989, there were 986 sightings in 2011 — or almost three per day. The record for a single year is 1,004 sightings, set in 2008.

Ontario led the country in sightings, with 406. B.C. and Alberta placed a distant second and third.

There were 81 UFO sightings in Manitoba — 18 of which occurred within Winnipeg.
